The Mauer Museum/Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie is an eye opening factual experience into the lives of those segmented by the political segregation of Berlin during soviet rule and the construction of the wall. The museum contains a wealth of personal and historical insight into the extra-ordinary lives of this group. The methods; most heroically inventive and also at times incredibly dangerous; they used to overcome the oppression the wall and its National-Socialist architects had inflicted on them are both on display and exceptionally articulated by the museum’s guides. Each of the guides not only conveys a wealth of historical and factual knowledge but is also able to deliver their individual first hand view of these events and their impact on their own lives, as they themselves each lived through this period in Berlin. The museum provides a collection of artifacts and stories that, at times, can overload your senses; but still is able to deliver a clear and awe inspiring portrayal of this historical period in the history of Berlin.
